Lexus NX Recall 2026, Toyota Recalls 68,356 Lexus NX Vehicles Over Dashboard Display Error
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing is recalling 68,356 Lexus NX vehicles in the United States because a software error can leave parts of the instrument cluster blank when the engine starts. When that happens, the warnings for engine oil pressure, engine coolant temperature and electrical charge may not appear, even if the problem they describe is real.
The recall covers certain 2022, 2023 and 2024 Lexus NX250, NX350, NX350h and NX450h+ vehicles with a specific 7-inch combination meter. Toyota filed its Part 573 Safety Recall Report with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on October 20, 2026, and announced the recall publicly on October 23. The NHTSA campaign number is 26V687 (also shown as 26V687000) and Toyota’s recall number is 26LA10.
The fix is free. Lexus dealers will install a software update on the combination meter, and Toyota says an over-the-air update may follow later for vehicles that support it. Owner letters are scheduled for December 7–21, 2026.
Not every 2022–2024 NX is included. Toyota says the problem is limited to vehicles with certain 7-inch meter software, so check your 17-character VIN instead of relying on the model year.
This is a safety recall, not a lawsuit. As of October 30, 2026, no related class action, settlement fund or cash payment program has been announced.

Which Lexus NX Models Are in Toyota’s Recall 26LA10?
Toyota’s NHTSA filing breaks the 68,356 vehicles down by model. All four models cover model years 2022–2024.
| Lexus model | Potentially involved vehicles |
| Lexus NX250 | 1,245 |
| Lexus NX350 | 29,099 |
| Lexus NX350h (hybrid) | 26,554 |
| Lexus NX450h+ (plug-in hybrid) | 11,458 |
| Total | 68,356 |
These are counts of vehicles that could have the defective software, not vehicles known to have shown a blank display.
Are all 2022–2024 Lexus NX vehicles recalled?
No. Toyota’s report says that although the involved vehicles fall within the production dates, not all vehicles built in that window were sold in the U.S. It also says the problem only affects vehicles with a 7-inch combination meter from specific suppliers that contains certain software. Other Toyota and Lexus vehicles use meters without that software.
The VIN is the only reliable way to know. Production dates and model year alone will not settle it.
Is the Lexus NX450h+ plug-in hybrid included?
Yes. The NX450h+ accounts for 11,458 of the recalled vehicles, and the NX350h hybrid accounts for another 26,554. The recall is not limited to gasoline models.
What Is Wrong With the Lexus NX Instrument Cluster?
The problem is in the combination meter, the display behind the steering wheel. It is not the large center touchscreen used for navigation and audio.
According to Toyota’s filing, an error can occur while the meter starts up. Certain areas of the display may go blank, and the required indicators for engine oil pressure, engine coolant temperature and electrical charge may not show when the underlying condition occurs.
Which Lexus NX warnings may fail to appear?
- Engine oil pressure. This light warns of a possible lubrication problem.
- Engine coolant temperature. This light warns of overheating or a cooling-system problem.
- Electrical charge. This light warns of a charging-system problem.
Toyota does not say all three disappear every time. The display can become partially blank, and a warning may be missing at the moment it is needed. This is an intermittent failure, not necessarily a permanently dark dashboard.

Why does the Lexus NX display go blank?
Toyota and its supplier traced the problem to interference between internal processes in the meter’s graphic microcontroller during startup. That interference can happen when the initialization time is short. They found that the total amount of text stored in the meter software affects that timing, so certain software versions are more exposed than others.
In plain terms, this is a software timing issue. It is not a cracked screen or damaged wiring.
Toyota says the blank screen may occur only randomly at startup. The 100% figure in the report describes how many involved vehicles carry the software, not how many will show the symptom.
Who made the Lexus NX combination meter?
The NHTSA report names two suppliers: Denso Manufacturing Tennessee, Inc. in Maryville, Tennessee, and Denso Corporation in Kariya, Japan. The report lists 20 combination-meter part numbers. Naming a supplier in a recall filing does not establish legal responsibility. Toyota is handling the recall remedy.
Toyota’s Investigation Timeline for the Lexus NX Display Defect
Toyota’s filing shows the cause took more than three years to pin down.
| Period | What happened |
| 2023 | Toyota began receiving reports of blank meter displays. |
| August 2023 – July 2024 | Parts were recovered and analyzed. No abnormalities were found. |
| August 2024 – February 2025 | The supplier ran a fault-tree analysis focused on meter startup control after more field reports. |
| March – April 2025 | Bench testing with repeated ignition on/off cycles produced a blank display, though it was unclear whether it matched what customers saw. |
| April – June 2025 | Specialized software was built to capture internal meter data. Testing reproduced the blank screen. Interference between internal processes in the graphic microcontroller was suspected. |
| June – October 2025 | More bench testing suggested the interference could occur when initialization time is short. |
| November 2025 – January 2026 | Toyota and the supplier found that the amount of text in the meter software can affect initialization time. |
| January – September 2026 | Multiple model variations were tested to measure the text amounts linked to the problem. |
| October 2026 | Toyota confirmed that meter specifications with a certain text amount can produce the blank screen. |
| October 14, 2026 | Toyota determined the vehicles may not meet FMVSS No. 101, paragraphs S5.1 through S5.5. |
| October 20, 2026 | Toyota submitted the Part 573 report to NHTSA. |
| October 23, 2026 | Toyota announced the recall publicly. |

How Serious Is the Lexus NX Dashboard Display Problem Under FMVSS No. 101?
Toyota classifies this as a noncompliance recall. The concern is that the vehicles may not meet the warning-indicator requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 101 (49 C.F.R. § 571.101), which governs the location, identification and illumination of vehicle controls, telltales and indicators.
Toyota’s safety risk statement says the condition can reduce the driver’s recognition of the conditions those indicators represent, which can increase the risk of a crash if those conditions occur. In its press release, Toyota adds that continued driving without the warnings could delay the driver taking appropriate action.
A missing oil-pressure or coolant warning can mean a driver keeps going while an engine is being damaged. A missing charge warning can mean a driver does not realize the electrical system is failing. Neither is guaranteed to happen, but each is the kind of problem the required indicators exist to catch.
The report’s remedy section does not include a Do Not Drive or Park Outside instruction, and Toyota’s public announcement does not mention one. That is not a reason to ignore the recall. Until your Lexus is repaired, watch the gauges you can still see and treat any odd behavior, such as unusual engine temperature or electrical trouble, as something to have checked.
If your display goes blank while driving, pull over when it is safe and call a Lexus dealer or roadside assistance.
What Is Toyota’s Fix for the Lexus NX Recall?
Toyota’s remedy is a free software update to the combination meter. According to the filing, all known owners will be notified and the update will be available through Lexus dealers. It may also be delivered over the air in the future for vehicles that support that function.
Toyota has not promised an over-the-air update for every affected NX, so do not wait for one. The confirmed route today is the dealer.
Federal law backs up the “free” part. Under 49 U.S.C. § 30120, a manufacturer must generally remedy a covered defect or noncompliance at no charge when the vehicle is presented for repair. See 49 U.S.C. § 30120.
When will Lexus NX owners get Toyota recall letters?
| Notification | Planned date |
| Dealer notification | October 20, 2026 |
| Owner notification begins | December 7, 2026 |
| Owner notification planned completion | December 21, 2026 |
NHTSA’s report labels the owner notification a phased recall, so letters will not all arrive on the same day. Toyota’s announcement says owners will be notified by late December 2026. You do not need to wait for a letter to check your VIN.
How to Check if Your Lexus NX Is Part of Toyota Recall 26LA10
- Find your 17-character VIN. It is on the lower driver’s side of the windshield, on the driver’s door-jamb label, and on your registration and insurance papers.
- Search NHTSA. Go to NHTSA.gov/recalls, enter your VIN and look for campaign 26V687. NHTSA’s Part 573 report did not list a date when VINs become searchable, so if the recall does not show up yet, check again in a few days.
- Search Toyota. Use Toyota’s recall lookup, which Toyota’s announcement lists alongside NHTSA.
- Call a Lexus dealer. Give your VIN, model year and model, and reference Toyota recall 26LA10 and NHTSA campaign 26V687. Ask whether the software update is available yet.
- Keep the repair order. After the update, keep the paperwork showing recall 26LA10 was completed. It helps if you sell the car or have a related problem later.

What if Your Lexus NX Already Showed a Blank Display, or You Paid for a Repair?
A display that went blank once and then worked after a restart is not proof your car is excluded, because Toyota says the failure can happen randomly at startup. If it happened to you, write down the date and circumstances, keep any dealer diagnostic report, and give your VIN and recall number 26LA10 to a Lexus dealer.
If you paid out of pocket to fix the same meter problem, Toyota’s filing says it is using its general reimbursement plan. Federal law, 49 U.S.C. § 30120(d), requires a manufacturer’s remedy program to include a plan for reimbursing owners who paid for a remedy before the manufacturer’s notice to NHTSA. Keep your invoice and the dealer’s diagnosis, note the date and amount, and ask Toyota whether the repair qualifies. Reimbursement is not automatic, since the type of repair and its timing both matter.
Is Toyota’s October 2026 Lexus NX Recall the Same as the March 2026 Rearview Camera Recall?
No. Some Lexus NX owners may have two separate open recalls. Toyota’s March 2026 recall, NHTSA campaign 26V162, covered about 144,200 vehicles, including non-hybrid 2022–2025 NX250 and NX350 models, because the rearview camera image may not display in reverse. NHTSA’s report ties that problem to FMVSS No. 111 (rear visibility).
| Detail | March 2026 recall | October 2026 recall |
| NHTSA number | 26V162 | 26V687 |
| Toyota recall numbers | 26LB02 / 26LA02 | 26LA10 |

- 49 C.F.R. Part 573. The federal rule for manufacturer defect and noncompliance reports, which is the form Toyota used for its filing.
Is There a Lexus NX Dashboard Display Class Action Lawsuit or Settlement?
As of October 30, 2026, no class action, settlement fund or consumer payment program tied to Toyota recall 26LA10 has been identified. The recall is a safety remedy filed with NHTSA.
- No claim form exists, and no payment amount has been announced.
- You do not need a lawyer to get the free recall repair.
- Toyota has not announced a refund or buyback for this issue.
A recall and a lawsuit are separate things. Someone who suffered an injury, accident or financial loss they believe is linked to the defect may have separate legal options, but the recall alone does not prove Toyota is liable for any individual loss. Those questions depend on the facts and on state law, so talk to a licensed attorney in your state.
