Iowa and the Sandoz $400 Million Generic Drug Settlement, Who Qualifies, How to Claim, and the March 8, 2027 Deadline
Iowa has joined a coalition of attorneys general in a $400 million settlement with Sandoz Inc. and Fougera Pharmaceuticals Inc. over allegations that the companies took part in a long-running scheme to inflate generic prescription drug prices and reduce competition.
If you bought a covered generic prescription drug between May 2009 and December 2019, you may be able to claim compensation. The deadline is March 8, 2027.

Claim deadline: March 8, 2027 | Phone: 1-866-290-0182 | Email: [email protected]
The settlement is about pricing and competition. It is not about drug safety, so do not stop taking a prescribed medication because of it.

Which Iowa Consumers May Qualify?
You may qualify if you purchased a covered generic prescription drug between May 2009 and December 2019 and meet the settlement’s other requirements. Not every generic drug is covered, and not every prescription from those years qualifies.
Check these points:
- Is your drug on the official covered-drug list?
- Was your purchase between May 2009 and December 2019? Purchases in 2020 or later do not fall within the stated period.
- Do you meet the other eligibility rules on the settlement website?
The list is large and includes antibiotics, antidepressants, contraceptives, and anti-inflammatory drugs, plus medicines used for conditions such as diabetes, cancer, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, HIV, and ADHD. Check the official list instead of guessing.
How to File a Claim
- Check the covered-drug list on the official settlement website.
- Gather records from 2009 to 2019 if you have them: pharmacy printouts, prescription history, insurance statements, or payment records.
- File online at the official site, or request a paper form by calling 1-866-290-0182 or emailing [email protected].
- Submit by March 8, 2027 and keep a copy of what you send.
You never need to pay anyone to file. Use only the official site.
How Much Will Iowa Consumers Receive?
There is no fixed payment per person. The $400 million is split among consumers across the participating states, and individual payments depend on the allocation plan and the claims filed.
About Iowa’s share: Local media reported Iowa’s expected allocation as about $1.38 million (one report gave $1,380,384.01) and another report said about $1.3 million. We could not find an Iowa Attorney General release stating the exact amount, so treat the figure as reported, not confirmed. State allocations can also include both consumer restitution and government components, so the Iowa figure is not the same as the amount available to individual consumers.
What Is the Case About?
The states allege Sandoz and Fougera joined a broad, coordinated scheme with other generic drug makers to fix prices, avoid competition, and rig bids for more than 100 generic drugs. Some price increases allegedly exceeded 1,000 percent. The states say executives coordinated through meetings, phone calls, emails, and texts.
These are allegations. Sandoz says the settlement contains no admission of wrongdoing. Sandoz has also agreed to reforms, including an antitrust compliance program with annual training and a Chief Compliance Officer.

How This Differs From the $275 Million Sandoz Settlement
There are two separate Sandoz settlements:
| $400M state attorneys general settlement | $275M federal end-payer settlement | |
| Brought by | State attorneys general, including Iowa | Private class plaintiffs in the federal multidistrict litigation |
| Court | District of Connecticut | Eastern District of Pennsylvania (MDL No. 16-MD-2724) |
| Claims site | AGGenericDrugs.com | Separate end-payer settlement site |
If you bought covered generic drugs between 2009 and 2019, check both programs. Filing in one does not file you in the other. See our guides: Sandoz $275,000,000 Generic Drugs Settlement and Sandoz $400 Million Generic Drug Settlement: Illinois.
Court Case Information
The settlement is being presented for approval in the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut in Hartford. It resolves claims in three related state cases, including State of Connecticut et al. v. Sandoz, Inc. et al., No. 3:20-cv-00802-MPS. The other two are State of Connecticut et al. v. Aurobindo Pharma USA, Inc. et al., No. 3:16-cv-02056-MPS, and State of Connecticut et al. v. Teva Pharmaceuticals USA, Inc. et al., No. 3:19-cv-00710-MPS.
The settlement was announced in principle on August 3, 2026, and the states announced the filing and consumer claims process in early October 2026.
