Kobalt Yard Tools Recall 2026, 554,780 Batteries Pulled Over Fire Hazard

If you bought a Kobalt cordless yard tool at Lowe’s this year, stop and check the battery before you charge it again. Greenworks Tools has recalled about 554,780 Kobalt 24V and 48V yard power tools and batteries because the lithium-ion batteries can short-circuit — and catch fire — when charged through their USB-C port while still inserted in the tool.

What’s Being Recalled

The recall covers Kobalt-branded batteries with a USB-C charging port, in capacities of 3.0Ah, 4.0Ah, 5.0Ah, 6.0Ah, and 8.0Ah, along with the tools they were sold with. That includes:

• Lawn mowers
• Chainsaws
• Pruning saws
• Power cleaners
• Bristle brush kits

Only tools and batteries with the USB-C charging port are affected. If your Kobalt battery charges a different way, it’s not part of this recall. The recalled products were sold exclusively at Lowe’s stores and Lowes.com from January 2026 through May 2026, priced between $20 and $482, and were manufactured in China and Vietnam for Greenworks North America LLC (doing business as Greenworks Tools) of Mooresville, North Carolina.

The Hazard

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, charging these lithium-ion batteries through the USB-C port while the battery is still inserted in the tool can cause the battery to short-circuit, creating a fire risk.
