What Changed in the April Leonard $900,000 Settlement?

The city created Ordinance 260867 on August 24, 2026. The Transportation, Infrastructure and Operations Committee recommended advancing it on September 29. The full City Council then passed it on October 1. The official legislative record now lists the ordinance as “Passed” and identifies October 1 as its final action date. 

The ordinance authorizes the City Attorney to pay $900,000.00 to resolve Leonard’s claims and specifies that the payment will come from Account No. 27-7010-131543-618200, the Public Official Liability Fund. The city’s finance director also certified that sufficient funds were available for the payment. 

That is a significant change from the earlier status reported on October 2, when the council authorization had not yet been finalized.

Leonard, a former Kansas City social media manager, sued the city over alleged workplace discrimination, retaliation and a hostile work environment.
