Alexander Brothers Sentencing, Prosecutors Seek Life in Prison After Federal Sex-Trafficking Convictions
Status box: Sentencing was scheduled for October 27, 2026, at 10 a.m. ET. At the time of writing, the final prison terms had not been confirmed in the official records or reliable reports reviewed for this article. This page will be updated once the court’s judgments are available.
Alon Alexander, Oren Alexander and Tal Alexander were scheduled to be sentenced on October 27, 2026, in Manhattan federal court, after a jury convicted all three brothers of federal sex offenses, including conspiracy to commit sex trafficking. Federal prosecutors have asked U.S. District Judge Valerie E. Caproni to impose life sentences. The defense has asked for 15 years each. [1][2][3]
The jury heard from 11 women who testified that they were sexually assaulted by one or more of the brothers, and returned its verdicts on March 9, 2026. Prosecutors argued the brothers used wealth, luxury travel and social connections to lure women to private settings where some were drugged and assaulted. [1]
A request for life imprisonment is not a life sentence. Only the judge’s sentencing decision and the written judgment establish the punishment actually imposed.

What Happened in the Alexander Brothers Sex-Trafficking Case?
Federal authorities announced sex-trafficking charges against the three brothers in December 2024, and they have been held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn since their arrests. [2]
According to the superseding indictment, the charged conduct ran from approximately 2010 through 2021. Prosecutors alleged the brothers promised luxury trips, accommodations and exclusive experiences to persuade women to travel or meet at private locations, that some women were drugged before being assaulted, and that more than one brother sometimes took part. [2]
Oren and Tal Alexander were prominent luxury real estate brokers who later launched their own brokerage. Alon Alexander ran the family’s private security business. Prosecutors said the brothers’ wealth, status and access to high-end venues helped them meet and isolate women.
Prosecutors told the jury that more than 60 women had accused one or more of the brothers of sexual assault. Only the allegations tried and decided by the jury are established by the verdict. Accusations involving people who did not testify, or incidents that were not charged, should not be treated as proven facts.
On March 9, 2026, the jury returned guilty verdicts against all three defendants. The Justice Department announced the outcome the same day. [1]
Which Crimes Were the Alexander Brothers Convicted Of?
The convictions differ by defendant. Judge Caproni’s March 10, 2026 post-verdict order identifies the offense categories for each brother. [4]
Alon Alexander
- Conspiracy to commit sex trafficking
- Sex trafficking
- Sex trafficking of a minor
- Inducement to travel to engage in unlawful sexual activity
- Aggravated sexual abuse
- Sexual abuse of a physically incapacitated person
Oren Alexander
- Conspiracy to commit sex trafficking
- Sex trafficking
- Inducement to travel to engage in unlawful sexual activity
- Aggravated sexual abuse
- Sexual abuse of a physically incapacitated person
- Sexual exploitation of a minor
Tal Alexander
- Conspiracy to commit sex trafficking
- Sex trafficking
- Sex trafficking of a minor
- Inducement to travel to engage in unlawful sexual activity
These lists are not interchangeable. A brother is not convicted of an offense merely because another brother was. Sentencing must account for each defendant’s own convictions and the penalty range that applies to each.
Note on dismissed counts: Media reports state that in a separate March 17, 2026 order, Judge Caproni dismissed Counts Six and Seven of the superseding indictment, which alleged sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion. Readers should confirm the exact effect of that order for each defendant on the federal docket.

Why Are the Alexander Brothers Facing Possible Life Sentences?
Under 18 U.S.C. § 1591, sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion carries a mandatory minimum of 15 years and a maximum of life imprisonment. Offenses involving minors are covered by other provisions of the same statute, and the penalty depends on the subsection and the facts found. Conspiracy under 18 U.S.C. § 1594 and the other sexual-abuse offenses carry their own penalty ranges. [5]
Prosecutors described the offenses in their sentencing submission, posted on the court website in mid-October, as “sex crimes of extraordinary magnitude” and asked for life terms for all three brothers. [6]
The defense has asked for 15 years each, arguing for sentences at or near the mandatory minimum associated with the sex-trafficking counts. Judge Caproni is not bound by either side’s recommendation.
What Is Judge Caproni Deciding at Sentencing?
Federal sentencing is more than choosing a number. The judge must calculate the advisory Sentencing Guidelines range and weigh the factors in 18 U.S.C. § 3553(a), including the seriousness of the offense, just punishment, deterrence, protection of the public and the history of each defendant. [7]
The parties have disputed parts of the calculation, including which sentencing enhancements apply and whether the court should recommend that the brothers be housed in separate federal prisons. An enhancement raises the advisory guideline range when the court finds a specified aggravating circumstance. The court must distinguish between conduct found by the jury and other relevant conduct it may consider under the sentencing rules.
A recommendation about prison placement is separate from sentence length. A judge may recommend, but the Federal Bureau of Prisons generally makes the final designation decision.
Sentencing was postponed more than once during 2026, from an initial August 6 date, then to October 6, before the court calendar listed October 27 at 10 a.m. ET. [3]
What Role Do Victims Play at Sentencing?
Under the Crime Victims’ Rights Act, 18 U.S.C. § 3771, crime victims have the right to be reasonably heard at sentencing. Women who testified at trial were expected to address the court. [8]
Victim impact statements describe how the offenses affected a person’s life. They do not set the prison term by themselves. The judge weighs them alongside the trial record, the sentencing memoranda, the guidelines and the statutory factors.
The hearing is not a new trial. The jury has already decided guilt. Its purpose is to determine punishment and resolve related disputes.
What Happens After the Alexander Brothers Are Sentenced?
- Judgments. The court enters judgments setting prison terms, supervised release, and any fines or restitution authorized by law.
- Appeal. Defense lawyers have said they will appeal. A notice of appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit does not erase a conviction or sentence, and the appeal is limited to the legal issues properly raised.
- Prison designation. The Bureau of Prisons decides where each brother serves his sentence. A judicial recommendation is considered but is not binding.
- Restitution. For qualifying trafficking offenses, 18 U.S.C. § 1593 requires restitution based on the victims’ losses as determined under the statute. [9]
Is There an Alexander Brothers Settlement or Claim Form?
No. United States v. Alexander is a federal criminal prosecution, not a class action. There is no public settlement fund or claim form. Victims identified in the criminal case may have rights, including restitution, but that is different from joining a settlement.
Anyone with information relevant to the case can contact the FBI through the details in the Justice Department’s announcement: 1-800-CALL-FBI or [email protected]. [2]
How Is This Criminal Case Different From Civil Lawsuits?
A federal prosecution is brought by the government, requires proof beyond a reasonable doubt, and results in criminal punishment. A civil lawsuit is brought by a plaintiff seeking money damages, with a generally lower burden of proof. The same conduct can lead to both, but one does not automatically decide the other.
For comparison, our coverage of the Julia Hubbard lawsuit, in which 20+ defendants are accused in a federal sex trafficking case and a court denied dismissal, shows how trafficking allegations proceed in a civil courtroom. The Joi Dickerson-Neal lawsuit against Sean “Diddy” Combs under New York’s Adult Survivors Act is a civil claim under state law and is separate from this federal prosecution. Likewise, the Uber sexual assault MDL third bellwether settlement in Jane Doe QLF 001 v. Uber Technologies involves civil claims against a company, not criminal charges against individuals.
These matters involve different parties, statutes, burdens of proof and remedies, and should not be treated as interchangeable.

What were the Alexander brothers convicted of?
All three were convicted of multiple federal sex offenses, including conspiracy to commit sex trafficking. The specific convictions differ by brother and are listed above.
