What Is the Eigen Labs Inc. $1M Washington Job Applicant Settlement?

Eigen Labs Inc. agreed to pay $1,000,000 to settle a class action lawsuit alleging its job postings for positions in Washington failed to disclose required pay and benefits information in violation of state law — specifically Washington’s Equal Pay and Opportunities Act (EPOA).

The case is formally titled Kent v. Eigen Labs Inc. Eigen Labs denies any wrongdoing but agreed to settle to avoid further litigation.

Who Is Eigen Labs?

Eigen Labs is a blockchain technology company backed by $220 million in venture funding, known for operating EigenLayer and EigenDA protocols as part of EigenCloud. Despite being a tech-focused startup, it is fully subject to Washington’s pay transparency law for any positions that could be filled by Washington-based applicants.

Who Qualifies?

Individuals who applied for a job opening with Eigen Labs Inc. in Washington state between January 1, 2023, and July 26, 2025, are eligible if they provided a U.S. location in their application and the job posting did not disclose the wage scale or salary range and/or a general description of benefits for the position. There are approximately 406 class members.

Why Did Washington Job Applicants Have the Right to Sue?

Washington’s EPOA has required since January 2023 that any job posting open to Washington-based applicants must include a wage scale or salary range and a description of benefits. Applicants may recover statutory damages between $100 and $5,000 per violation.

The 2025 amendments to the EPOA allow employers to avoid liability if they correct violations occurring after July 27, 2025, by giving employers a five-business-day cure window after receiving written notice from an applicant. However, the entire Eigen Labs class period — January 2023 through July 26, 2025 — falls under the old, stricter rules where no cure option existed.
