Tinder has agreed to pay $60.5 million to resolve a decade-long class action lawsuit alleging it charged California users over the age of 29 nearly double what younger subscribers paid for the exact same Tinder Plus and Tinder Gold features. Am I Eligible for the Tinder Settlement Payment?
Individuals who purchased Tinder Plus or Tinder Gold in California at any time on or after March 2, 2015, when they were older than the age of 29, or on or after March 2, 2016, when they were older than the age of 28, may qualify to claim a cash payment from this class action settlement.
In plain terms, you may be eligible if:
- You purchased Tinder Plus or Tinder Gold in California
- Your purchase occurred on or after March 2, 2015, AND you were over age 29 at the time of purchase
- OR your purchase occurred on or after March 2, 2016, AND you were over age 28 at the time of purchase
- Your subscription falls within the class period: March 2, 2015 – September 30, 2025
What matters is that you were a California resident at the time you purchased your Tinder Plus or Gold subscription between March 2015 and September 2025. Where you live now does not affect your eligibility. You do not need to be a current Tinder user to qualify.
Do I Need to File a Claim Form?
No. If you are an identified class member, no claim form is required. Simply go to tindercalclassaction.com and choose your preferred payment method. If you do nothing, the Settlement Administrator will still attempt to pay you electronically using your information from Tinder’s records.
However, selecting your payment method on the website is strongly recommended. If you do not choose a method and your contact information in Tinder’s records is outdated, payment may fail to reach you.
How Do I Get My Tinder Settlement Payment?
There are two tracks depending on whether you received a notice:
If You Received a Settlement Notice (Email, Text, or Postcard)
If you received notice via email or text directly to your email or phone number, or if you received a postcard notice by U.S. mail, that means Tinder records indicate that you are part of the class. You should go to tindercalclassaction.com and select your preferred payment method using the Claim ID and PIN included in your notice.
If You Did NOT Receive a Notice But Believe You Qualify
If you did not receive a class notice but believe you are a class member, complete and submit the Verification Form at tindercalclassaction.com by August 18, 2026.
To complete the verification form, you will need to provide:
- Your estimated total subscription payments to Tinder from the start of your subscription through September 30, 2025
- A copy of a government-issued ID (driver’s license or passport) to confirm your date of birth
- Any available documentation of your subscription payment amounts, such as receipts, App Store purchase history, or credit card statements

How to Find Proof of Your Tinder Subscription
If you are not sure whether you had a Tinder Plus or Gold subscription during the class period, here are the best ways to verify:
- Apple users: Check your Apple ID purchase history in the App Store under your account settings
- Android users: Check your Google Play purchase history under Subscriptions
- Bank or credit card statements: Search for “Tinder” charges from March 2015 through September 2025
- Email inbox: Search for confirmation emails from Tinder or Apple/Google regarding subscription billing
What Are the Payment Method Options?
You can choose from PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, ACH direct deposit, or a mailed check at tindercalclassaction.com.
ACH direct deposit is generally the fastest and most reliable method. If you do not select a method, the administrator will attempt to pay you using contact information on file from Tinder’s records via PayPal, Venmo, or Zelle.
How Much Will Each Person Get from the Tinder Settlement?
Eligible class members will receive a pro rata cash payment. The settlement administrator will determine the payment amount by the amount class members paid for Tinder Plus or Tinder Gold and the total number of participating class members. Class members who paid more to Tinder will receive a higher payment.
Out of the $60.5 million total fund, $20 million will be deducted as attorney fees, $300,000 as attorney expenses, $350,000 as administration costs, and $20,000 for the class representative. The remaining amount — approximately $39.8 million — will be distributed among eligible class members on a pro rata basis.
Individual payment amounts have not been announced. Your payout will depend on how much you paid for subscriptions during the class period and how many people participate. Those who paid more in total subscription fees over the covered years will receive proportionally larger payments.
When Will Tinder Settlement Payments Be Sent?
The court will determine whether to grant final approval to the Tinder settlement at a hearing on May 20, 2026. Compensation will begin to be distributed only after final approval has been granted and any appeals are resolved.
If the settlement gets final approval without any appeal, the payout will start within 90 days. In case of any appeal, one may have to wait up to six months or more. The earliest realistic payment window is late summer or fall 2026 — assuming no appeals follow the May 20 hearing.
What the Lawsuit Alleged
Lead plaintiff Allan Candelore filed the lawsuit in May 2015 in Los Angeles Superior Court. In March 2015, Tinder implemented a pricing structure in California that charged users 30 and older nearly double what users under 30 paid for Tinder Plus. Younger users paid approximately $9.99 per month, while users 30 and older were charged $19.99 monthly for the exact same features.
The class action alleged this pricing violated California’s Unruh Civil Rights Act and Unfair Competition Law. The Unruh Civil Rights Act prohibits businesses operating in California from discriminating against customers based on characteristics including age.
The litigation spanned over a decade. After the suit was initially dismissed, that ruling was reversed on appeal, and the case was also stayed several times pending the outcome of a federal case with overlapping claims. The Ninth Circuit twice rejected settlements in the federal case, most recently in 2023, ruling that the class representative had a conflict of interest and did not adequately represent the class. Following those rejections, Tinder agreed to engage in settlement discussions with California class counsel for the first time, ultimately reaching the $60.5 million agreement at mediation on September 10, 2025.
Tinder’s Position
Tinder denies all allegations. Tinder denies that it did anything wrong or violated any law, and denies that any class members were injured by its age-based pricing policy. The settlement does not mean that Tinder did anything wrong. Settlement without admission of liability is standard practice in class action resolutions.
