Ajinomoto Foods North America is recalling approximately 3,370,530 pounds of frozen not-ready-to-eat chicken fried rice products that may be contaminated with glass, as announced by the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service on February 19, 2026. The affected Trader Joe’s-branded product was shipped to Trader Joe’s stores nationwide. There have been no confirmed reports of injury. Consumers should not eat the recalled product and should throw it away or return it to the store. No class action lawsuit has been filed as of this writing.

What Products Are Affected?

The recall covers 20-oz. plastic bag packages of “TRADER JOE’S Chicken Fried Rice with stir-fried rice, vegetables, seasoned dark chicken meat and eggs” with BEST BY dates 9/8/2026 through 11/17/2026. The recalled products bear establishment number P-18356 inside the USDA mark of inspection. The frozen rice item was shipped to Trader Joe’s retail locations nationwide.

A separate Ajinomoto-branded product — 1.53-kilogram cardboard packages of six bags of “Ajinomoto Yakitori Chicken with Japanese-Style Fried Rice” with BEST BEFORE dates 26 SE 09 through 26 NO 12 — was exported exclusively to Canada and is not sold in U.S. Trader Joe’s locations.

What Happened?

The problem was discovered after Ajinomoto Foods notified FSIS that it received four consumer complaints about glass found in the product. The items were produced between September 8, 2025, and November 17, 2025.

FSIS issued the recall with a Class I risk warning, indicating a high risk in which there is a reasonable probability that consumption of the product could cause serious adverse health consequences. No information has been publicly released about the source of the glass inside the production facility.

Who Is Affected?

Anyone who purchased the 20-oz. Trader Joe’s Chicken Fried Rice bags with a BEST BY date between 9/8/2026 and 11/17/2026 is affected. FSIS is concerned that some product may still be in retailers’ or consumers’ freezers. You do not need to have been injured to return the product and receive a refund — purchase alone qualifies you for a refund at Trader Joe’s.

Is There a Class Action Lawsuit?

Ajinomoto Foods is not currently facing legal action over the recall. No class action complaint has been filed in any federal or state court as of February 28, 2026. No settlement administrator has been appointed and no settlement website exists.

This could change. Product recalls involving widespread distribution and confirmed contamination sometimes lead to class action litigation, particularly when consumers report injuries. If a lawsuit is filed, this article will be updated.

Consumer Rights and How to Get a Refund

You have two immediate options under the recall:

Throw the product away. If you have already discarded it, you may still be able to seek a refund by contacting Trader Joe’s customer service with proof of purchase, or by contacting Ajinomoto Foods directly.

Return it to Trader Joe’s. Consumers who purchased the product are urged not to consume it and to return it to the place of purchase. Trader Joe’s standard practice for recalled products is to issue a full refund at the store, with or without a receipt.

Contact the manufacturer directly: Consumers with questions can contact Ajinomoto Foods North America Consumer Affairs at (855) 742-5011 or by email at [email protected].

Report an injury or complaint: Consumers can report a problem with a meat, poultry, or egg product through the USDA’s Electronic Consumer Complaint Monitoring System at foodcomplaint.fsis.usda.gov, available 24 hours a day. Consumers with food safety questions can call the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-674-6854.

If you consumed the product and experienced a related injury, consult a healthcare provider. If you believe you have a legal claim related to an injury, consult a licensed attorney.
